The park was gazette in 1933 but later transformed into a national park in 1963. Bahima and Banyankole pastoralists who lived along with wild animals initially inhabited Lake Mburo. Lake Mburo National park is home to a variety of wildlife, both animals and birds. Among the animals that live in Lake Mburo National Park include African buffalos,, Zebras, Impalas, Common elands, Hippopotamuses, Waterbucks, Warthogs an predators such as genets, Serval cats, Lions, Civets, Leopards and Hyenas among others. For birders, Lake Mburo National Park is home to over 350 birds such as saddle-billed stork, African wattled lapwing, Bare faced goaway bird, Hairy breasted barbet, Shoebill stork, African Scops Owl, Blue headed coucal, Papyrus gonolek and African finfoot among others.

Climate in Lake Mburo Park

The climate in Lake Mburo National Park is mild with two seasons (Dry & wet). Day temperatures in the park rise up to 27°C and then drops up to 14°C at night. The dry season is in the months of June, July, August, December, January and February. Wet season occurs in March, April, May, September, October and November. April is known as the wettest months of the year. Day temperatures in the wet season are roughly 26°C.
