Day 1: Pick up – City tour & transfer to Mgahinga Park
Your driver guide from African Apes Holidays will pick you up from either your hotel in Kigali or the airport. Meet, greet and have a brief look through the itinerary. Thereafter, go for a city tour through Kigali to explore the beauty and cleanness of this small city. Among the top places to visit in Kigali city include the Kigali genocide memorial center, Kigali convention center, Kimironko market and the presidential palace. From there, drive to Cyanika border, clear with the immigration and cross over to Kisoro district. The drive time from Kisoro to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is roughly 2 hours.
Day 2: Mountain gorilla trekking & Departure
The great day for meeting the famous Nyakagyezi gorilla family is here! Rise up early, have breakfast and with your packed lunch transfer to Ntebeko Visitor Information center where you will be registered and briefed on the dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking. At 8:00am, start up the trek to meet the gorilla group. You will be assigned two armed rangers to hike with you through the jungle along other 7 travelers if they are available. The hike is undeniably strenuous but the magical feeling of meeting this only gorilla family is worth the effort. You will be allowed to spend an hour with the gorilla group, take pictures, capture live videos and enjoy the human like behaviors of mountain gorillas in their families. Besides mountain gorillas, Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is also home to three extinct Virunga Volcanoes &Mt Gahinga, Mt Sabinyo and Mt Muhabura) which offer you scenic views. Mgahinga Park is also home to the endangered golden monkeys, forest Elephants and many more colobus monkeys.
