Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Pick up, Kigali city tour & transfer to Nyungwe forest National Park
Depending on where you will be, (your lodge in Kigali or the airport), a driver guide from African Apes Tours will pick you in time. He/she will drive you through Kigali to explore and enjoy the beauty and cleanest of this small city ranked the smartest in Africa. You will visit some top destinations in Kigali and have lunch in the city Centre. Thereafter, drive southwestwards to Nyungwe Forest National park, home to the endangered chimpanzees.
Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking & canopy walk
Today we shall do chimpanzee trekking and canopy walk in the afternoon. Rise up early, have a heavy breakfast and with your packed lunch transfer to Gisakura visitor information Centre where you will register and briefed on the dos and don’ts of chimpanzee trekking. The trek to see chimpanzees begins at 8:00 am and may last for between 30 minutes to several hours depending on where chimps will be located that day. The allowed time with chimpanzees is strictly an hour! In the afternoon, join a canopy walk for great aerial views of Nyungwe Forest and the Virunga Volcanoes.
Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
You will have a relaxed breakfast and enjoy the sunrise in the heart of Nyungwe Forest National Park. Check out and transfer to Volcanoes National park located in northwestern Rwanda. Spend the rest of the time at the lodge as you prepare for the next day’s gorilla trekking
Day 4: Mountain gorilla trekking
Your day for trekking gorillas is finally! You will rise up in the morning, have your breakfast, get your packed lunch and drive to Kinigi where you will attend your briefing and registration. You will be served with a hot cup of coffee as you enjoy the traditional performances of local dancers. You will be put together with wit other 7 travelers and give a certain gorilla family to trek. At 8:00 am, start up a hike to meet the endangered gorillas. The trek can be as short as 30 minutes or longer as over 6 hours depending on the location of gorillas that day. Spend an hour with gorillas; see how the silverback guards the family while mothers nurse the babies. In the evening, you may do an optional cultural tour to experience the traditions, norms, and cultures of Rwanda people
Day 5: Departure
Have a relaxed morning at your lodge, enjoy your spiced sunrise breakfast and check out. Drive back to Kigali to catch up with your return flight.
