Day 1: Pick up from Kigali & transfer to Congo
The driver guide from African Apes Tours will pick you up from your hotel in Kigali or the airport. You may have an optional brief Kigali city tour to experience the cleanness and calmness of this small city. Among the top places to visit in Kigali city include Kigali genocide memorial center, Kigali Convention center, the presidential palace, and Kimironko market among others. Have lunch in Kigali and thereafter drive past Lake Kivu to the Democratic Republic of Congo crossing via Goma Rwanda Congo border. You will proceed to Congo for an overnight stay at your preferred
Day 2: Ascend Nyiragongo
Wake up early in the morning, have breakfast, and transfer to the Kibatsi patrol station. There you will join other hikers and rangers. You will be registered and briefed through the safety cautions, rules, and regulations of hiking Nyiragongo Volcano. The hike to the summit starts at 10:00 am and all travelers must be at the starting point by 10:00 am. Thereafter, start off the hike through the lush green vegetation of Virunga Park on the lower slopes of Nyiragongo Volcano. If you are lucky, you may meet the endangered gorillas and other primates, which live in Virunga National park. The upper slopes of Nyiragongo volcano have less vegetation which gives you chance to clearly see the neighboring attractions and other Virunga Volcanoes especially Nyamuragira. The hike to the summit takes between 5-7 hours depending on the hiking speed of the slowest person in your group. In the night, hike to the summit to experience the boiling lava lave which glows clearly at night. Get a chance to peep inside but very carefully. You will sleep in Volcano bandas on the mountain slopes.
Day 3: Descend and departure
Enjoy your morning sunrise breakfast on the slopes of Nyiragongo Volcano, enjoy your last moments there and descend. You will find your driver-guide on the mountain slopes and transfer to Kigali International Airport to catch up with your return flight.
