Day 1: Pick up from Kigali & transfer to Bukavu
After arriving at Kigali International airport, you will meet our driver guide representing African Apes Tours & Travel. He/she will brief you on the flow of the itinerary, what to expect and how to behave. You will begin a drive to Changungu border of Rwanda and Congo. Thereafter, drive to Bukavu town s short distance to Kahuzi Biega National park, the home to the endangered and rare eastern lowland gorillas.
Day 2: Eastern Lowland gorilla trekking & Nature walk
Rise up very early, have a heavy breakfast, and with your packed lunch transfer to the park headquarters of Kahuzi Biega. The park rangers will be briefed on the regulations of gorilla trekking to ensure safety. The rangers will also register you for record purposes. At 8:00 am park rangers will lead you into the jungle in search for the endangered lowland gorillas. The trekking time is uncertain but ranges between 2 hours to over 8 hours depending on your hiking speed and the location of the endangered gorillas. After meeting gorillas, you will be allowed to spend an hour with them, to learn their social behaviors, take pictures, capture videos and have fun with your close relatives. In the evening you will have a guided nature walk through the forest to explore the hidden gem in Kahuzi Biega National park on foot. Besides eastern lowland gorillas, Kahuzi Biega National park is home to other primates such as the red-tailed monkeys, colobus monkeys, black and white colobus and many baboons. Moreso, the park is home to over 350 bird species, which make it the best spot for bird watching.
Day 3: Departure
In the morning, have breakfast, check out, and transfer back to Kigali for your connecting flight.
