Day 1: Pick up; Kigali city tour & transfer to Volcanoes National Park
The driver guide from African Apes Tours & Travel will pick you up from your hotel in Kigali or the airport. Have a briefing on the itinerary and drive for a city tour in Kigali. The small clean and beautiful Kigali city is a starting point for all Rwanda trips. You will visit some places in Kigali such as the genocide memorial center, Kimironko market and the Inema art gallery among others. After having lunch in Kigali, embark on a 3 hours drive north westwards to Volcanoes National park
Day 2: Mountain gorilla trekking
This day will start with an early rise up, breakfast and a transfer to Kinigi park head quarters. Register with park wardens and join other travelers for a briefing on the rules and regulations of gorilla trekking. You will be allocated one of the 10 gorilla families in Volcanoes National Park. The allowed time with the endangered gorillas is strictly an hour but you will spend more hours trekking in the jungle in search of the gentle giants. An hours’ interaction with a gorilla family, seeing how they interact with each other is the best wildlife experience travelers should enjoy
Day 3: Golden Monkey trekking & Iby’iwacu cultural village
The start of this day is similar to the previous day! Wake up early, have breakfast and transfer to Volcanoes National park head quarters at Kinigi for briefing and registration. At 8:00am start the trek to meet the playful golden monkeys in the jungle. The joyful character of golden monkeys as they jump continually across tree branches above your you is a magical feeling! The allowed time with these endangered species is an hour but it’s worth it. In the afternoon, you shall have a cultural walk to Iby’iwacu cultural village where you will learn and introduce you to the norms, cultures and traditions of Rwanda.
Day 4: Departure
Enjoy your last moments in Volcanoes National park, enjoy a relaxed sun rise breakfast at your lodge and check out. You will then drive via the Rwanda’ rolling hills back to Kigali airport for your catch-up flight.
